Development Process
The team got inspired by remembering a space-themed collection of plushies made not long ago by the franchise IKEA; from then on the central point of our project was a funky, cute animal floating in space. Then the small ideas flowed from there; what if the animal was a red panda since their facial markings would be recognizable in contrast with the dark background? And what if he was floating around cleaning the leftover food trash that ends up in space? But then the animal has to be a raccoon since they often rummage through cans.
The actual creation process went mostly smoothly. The communication was constant since this was a team of two people who could meet up in person easily. The work itself was also manageable within reason; this was a fairly easy, jam-friendly idea to execute but the more details got discussed, the more the team felt the pressure of creating a truly complete, polished game. We decided to put all the main features initially (main character floating, asteroid and rocket paths, big pieces of art, etc) and worry about the tiny details later.
We encountered some bugs on the way to deadlines which stumped the process both creatively and technically. We also got a little frustrated by the abundance of ideas that just weren't feasible in a project of this dimension and time constraints. Despite all this, we both collaborated on a project we can be proud of and will continue to work on so that it can be better in the future.
Estimated Work Hours
The team worked around 47/48 hours altogether on this project.
